This is a close up picture of the Hemlock Adelgid on a hemlock tree in the London, Kentucky area taken last week, it is an insect becoming common to this area which has a multitude of hemlock trees. It has already been seen on many of these trees in this area and we have already been treating them. It is a relatively easy insect to control but is hard to see and does a lot of damage before it is usually noticed. This insect really likes the bigger trees, too, and it can and will kill the tree if left untreated. We use Neem Oil to spray on our plants in the spring because, unlike the light horticultural oils normally used for this purpose, which only control insects and the diseases they carry, the neem oils have anti-fungal controls also. The larger trees are too big to spray and require injections to treat any insect/fungal outbreaks. We at Minks have a certified arborist on staff and are licensed to treat your trees and plants for any concern you may have.
